This short film is very conventional. It includes many of the conventions used in short films. The main convention is the use of no dialogue. the whole film has its ups and downs which are conveyed by the music. at the beginning the music is very dull and low pitched. this helped convey the mood of the character which is obviously unhappy. However, in contrast the music in the middle changes to high paced which helps convey that the character is joyful. One other convention used in this short film is the use of minimal characters. The film is based on two characters however, many other characters are seen but have no effect on the narrative.

1- Short Film Analysis - Signs
We are introduced to "Signs" with a shot looking down at a young male laying on a kingsize white bed. This could emphasize the mans lonliness since his alone on a king size bed which could reflect back on his life. The music is also very depressing and he wakes up to a alarm clock signifying that its his daily routine. Furthermore there is a shot when he is getting out of his bed showing the white background of his curtains, duvets, and walls this could represent his life as being boring, plain and simple. The shot of him eating breakfast wearing a suit could show his a working man waking up and getting to go to work, the suit could symbolise a set of cultural ideas about formality, proffesional conduct, respect and care. Furthermore we also notice that the kitchen is also all white representing his plain and normal life. throughout the rest of the beginning of the short film, a piece of music is played which constantly varies from low to high pitches, which may invoke on the persons emotions and thoughts in each shot. The music changes with the persons emotions to symbolise what he is feeling. His facial expressions also seem very unhappy helping the audience assume he is unhappy with his lifestyle. There is a shot of him with empty shelves behind him in his office which could reflect on his own emptiness and lonliness. The ringing of the phones also signify the working environment his in adding more realism to the story. Also since he is eating lunch by himself helps show his alone and doesnt have much friends. This is also reflected on us when he is looking out of the balcony on to the rest of the world which could be because he feels its him alone against the rest of the world. Also when he sees everyone else laughing in the meeting he pretends to laugh suggesting his an outcast and feels like his the odd one in the group, also reflecting on his lonliness. The shots of him answering the answerphone and making his food and eating all alone reflect upon his lonely life. The repeated shots of him going to work represents his life like a cycle that goes on and on with nothing knew. The music throughout the film also reflects his emotions and thoughts since it is very calm and gives a sense of boredem and loneliness.
